Your CBD Store
Category:Fitness, Health, and Personal Care
Description: The wellness-oriented CDB industry -- in which retailers have been springing up across the country over the past few months -- has made its way to ER with the recent opening of Your CBD Store.

The franchised location is owned by Tim Torrey, who got into the business because he found CBD helped his focus, clarity, and "overall positive attitude" -- and out of concern for his girlfriend, Linda Salatino, an administrator in the senior living field.

"Linda has a stressful job, and I saw how much CBD helped when she started taking it about a year ago -- it was amazing how much it lowered her anxiety and improved her quality of life," Tim said. "Prior to taking it, she couldn't sleep through the night. That all changed. It's made an enormous difference."

"I was having a hard time sleeping for more than 20 years," Linda said. "But since Tim introduced me to CBD, I've been sleeping much better. My anxiety level has been considerably reduced, as well."

Studies have shown that CBD -- short for cannabidiol -- is helpful for people suffering from a multitude of problems, such as stress, depression, chronic pain, inflammation, migraines, and seizures. Available in a number of forms -- including flavored water solubles, oils, capsules, pain cream, edibles (such as hard candies), and beauty and pet products -- CBD is the second-most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis, or hemp. But while CBD is one of hemp's several hundred components, by itself it doesn't cause a “high.” And, like Tim and Linda, people swear by its "health without the high" benefits. "We're firm believers in how CBD can improve your quality of life," she said.

Tim, a native of Avon, earned a degree in history and business in '86 from Ithaca College, where he was also a standout linebacker. (A two-time All-American, he was inducted into their Hall of Fame in '03.) He ran a Kirby Vacuum distributorship in northern Virginia for 23 years before moving back to Rochester in '14 for an opportunity he couldn't pass up -- regional sales director at InventHelp in Linden Oaks, which helps people patent and promote their ideas to companies and manufacturers.

Linda, a Spencerport native who also serves as the store's marketing manager, has been Executive Director of Legacy Independent Senior Living at Parklands (in Churchville) since August 2017; before that she held the same title at Legacy at Village Wood (Penfield) for four years.

Sold on the idea of being part of the CBD industry, what led Tim specifically to the Florida-based Your CBD Store (which has more than 360 franchises in 32 states), when there are countless competitors? "I checked out several other CBD opportunities before deciding to go with them," he said. "I had a few friends who had already opened Your CBD Stores, and they were doing very well -- and were extremely happy with the guidance and support from the parent company.

"Our mission statement says it all: 'We develop and provide cutting-edge CBD products that utilize natural plant synergies; while fostering informed consumers who seek and demand transparency with the hope of regaining a quality of life'."

There's another reason he pursued a business relationship with that particular company: their model for brick-and-mortar locations. "Most CBD stores are more along the lines of vape shops and 'head shops'," he said. "Ours is very family-friendly and boutique-like -- a place you'd be happy to bring your mother."

And not only your mother, but also your daughter: Tim and Linda, who live in Brighton, have made it a family business. His daughter Melaney Torrey serves as sales manager, and her daughter Hannah Salatino is a sales associate.

Tim said he plans to keep up with the expected increase in demand for CBD products by expanding his involvement with the industry. He "absolutely" anticipates opening two more franchises in the area (there's already one on East Ridge Road) within the next year. He chose East Rochester for his first store, however, not only because of its central location, but also because the village "is very vibrant. We love the community atmosphere."

Our ER Chamber Business Directory is available for all our members.  Your business page can be revised any time, 24/7, by using your username and password to log in.  Business directory pages are visible year-round and are often ranked by search engines such as Google and Bing.

Members who haven't paid dues for the upcoming year on time will be given a grace period to catch up, and their directory business page will remain live through the end of our first-quarter grace period.  Once the grace period has ended, however, a non-paying member's directory page will automatically turn off until the member status has been updated with the ER Chamber.

"... I didn't make my Business Directory for over a year because I don't usually work with computers and was concerned about the entire process.  I finally sat down with the directions equaTEK sent me, and found it wasn't hard -- in fact, it was easy.  Sue Mayo-Smith was always there to answer my emails.  One thing I learned was that hitting the 'Update' button sent the information to the Chamber, and once approved, my work would be made live..."  --  Margy Richards, PCR Timing
